Andres Betts

M.D.

Dr. Andres Betts is double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Management, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of pain disorders.

Dr. Betts grew up in California where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at the University of California San Diego. He acquired his medical degree from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, where he was privileged to assist with the discovery of the first Cancer Genes with Noble Prize winning Professor J. Michael Bishop. He then attained his internship in General Surgery at the University of California San Diego Medical Center and his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. After his residency he completed a fellowship in High Risk Obstetric Anesthesia at the University of California Irvine and the Women’s Hospital Long Beach. He also completed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Long Beach VA Hospital.

With Dr. Betts having a keen interest in advanced pain therapies, he committed to training in the field of Interventional Pain Management. He states: “At that time, the field of pain management was just beginning to become its own field. So I developed multiple pain related procedures that included specialized treatment of sciatica, spinal compression fractures, piriformis syndrome, and sacral fractures.” He is holder of six US PTSO issued patents defining new medical devices.

In addition to caring for patients as an Interventional Pain Physician, Dr. Betts has worked in various leadership positions throughout his medical career. These include being a national speaker, published author in peer-reviewed journals, newsletters, and professional and general public articles. He founded the Pain Clinic in Bellingham, Washington and Pain MD Medical Associates in San Clemente, California. He also served as physician instructor to teach other physicians how to perform complex pain related treatment throughout the spine, spinal nerves, vertebral fracture and Radiofrequency Ablation.

Apart from practicing medicine, Dr. Betts is married to his wonderful wife and has a son who is a very talented guitarist that plays locally. He and his wife enjoy fine dining, live music, and theater. He has a passion for extreme skiing, mountaineering, rock climbing and is privileged to have travelled around the world doing so.
