Medhat Mikhael

M.D.

As a highly experienced leader in the medical field, for more than 20 years, Dr. Medhat F. Mikhael fills the key roles of Founder, President and West Division Chief Medical Officer of Pain Medicine Associates (PMA). His essential credentials include being double board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

As a former resident of Egypt and a current resident of the United States, Dr. Mikhael is nationally and internationally recognized as a leader in the field of pain medicine.

Dr. Mikhael received his Doctor of Medicine from Mansoura Faculty of Medicine in Mansoura, Egypt, which is where he also completed an internship. There he attained his Master’s Degree in General Surgery and Trauma Management. This has added to his experience in surgical interventions for the treatment of chronic pain. He also completed a second internship in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York. Further, he completed his residency in Anesthesiology as Chief Resident at the University of California in Los Angeles, California. Moreover, his invaluable training includes a fellowship in Pain Medicine which he achieved at the University of California in Irvine, California.

Dr. Mikhael’s leadership positions has led to many more accomplishments. He fills a seat as a member of the Board of Directors at the American Board of Pain Medicine and is a member of the Credentialing and Examination Council Committee. He also speaks on behalf of several pharmaceutical and medical device companies. These positions allow him to further contribute to and support the interest of his patients.

Dr. Mikhael considers it a privilege to assist others, and therefore continues to utilize his enriched proficiency in the field of medicine to make a positive impact in the lives’ of his patients. He shares his passion by stating: “I went into healthcare because I love to help people and I thought practicing medicine would satisfy that desire. However, after I finished my Anesthesia training, I felt that I missed the patient relationships. So during my senior training year, while doing pain rotation, I fell in love with the specialty and found that it would satisfy my desire of helping patients; particularly alleviating their suffering.”

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Mikhael is happily married to the love of his life and has two amazing kids. Like Dr. Mikhael, his kids have a passion for helping others. One of his children is soon to be a dentist graduate and the other is in medical school. In his spare time, Dr. Mikhael enjoys traveling, loves to play tennis and taking walks on the beach. He spends his most valuable time as board member of one of the Coptic Churches.
